Thailand, located in the tropics, experiences high temperatures and heavy rainfall year-round. Many office workers sweat during their commutes, resulting in damp fingers and frequent recognition failures with traditional fingerprint attendance systems. Furthermore, local companies generally prioritize hygiene, and employees are hesitant to touch frequently used public facilities. Additionally, the widespread wearing of masks by Thai employees also affects the effectiveness of facial recognition. Addressing these localized pain points, HFSecurity provided a multimodal facial recognition attendance and access control solution for an IT company in Thailand, achieving integrated management of contactless, rapid access, automatic attendance recording, and precise access control.
The company has nearly 100 employees, including those in technology, administration, and sales departments. The administrative manager faced two long-standing challenges: during the rainy season, employees' fingers were wet from the rain, causing the fingerprint scanner to repeatedly prompt "Please press again," resulting in long queues; some employees had hygiene concerns about fingerprint scanners that multiple people would touch, and were reluctant to use them. The company had previously tried facial recognition attendance, but the recognition speed was slow in dimly lit meeting room entrances, and the widespread mask-wearing among Thai employees also affected the recognition results. Managers urgently needed an attendance method that was flexible, hygienic, and reliably adaptable to the local climate.
HFSecurity's solution for this office was centered around a multimodal facial recognition attendance terminal. This terminal supports flexible configuration of various recognition modules, including facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, QR code scanning, IC card swiping, and palm vein recognition, allowing the company to configure it according to its specific needs.
In this project, the client, considering employee usage habits, primarily implemented three methods: facial recognition, QR code scanning, and employee card swiping. Employees can simultaneously register their faces, bind their employee cards, and generate a personal QR code upon joining the company:
Facial Recognition: Suitable for scenarios where employees pass through access control points empty-handed, with millisecond-level response and support for low-light and backlight compensation.
QR Code Attendance: Employees can access a dynamic QR code via LINE or the company's internal app and scan it in front of the device, especially suitable when their fingers are wet or they do not want to remove their masks.
Employee Card Swiping: Retains traditional habits, convenient for logistics or older employees who are not accustomed to smart devices.
All three types of identification records are uniformly collected in a single attendance backend, eliminating the problem of "separate statistics for different clocking-in methods." The device casing is made of high-temperature resistant materials, adaptable to Thailand's year-round indoor and outdoor temperature differences of over 30°C. The touchscreen surface has an anti-fingerprint coating, making daily cleaning very convenient.
HFSecurity attendance terminals support multiple installation methods, including wall mounting, desktop placement, floor-standing units, and integrated turnstiles, allowing for flexible selection based on office entrance layout, traffic flow, and decoration style. In this project, the client used wall-mounted units at the office entrance, desktop units in the lobby, and floor-standing units in the open-plan office area. For the finance and R&D areas with higher security requirements, the attendance terminals were integrated with turnstiles to achieve "clocking in upon passage."
All clocking-in records are uploaded to the attendance management platform in real time via the company's internal network. The platform automatically compares with shift schedules and generates visual reports on lateness, early departure, and absence. Previously, manually verifying overtime slips and leave requests at the end of the month took several days; now, only records flagged as abnormal by the system need to be checked. Since the system went live, morning rush hour queues have been significantly reduced, and HR's monthly attendance statistics efficiency has improved dramatically. Simultaneously, the system supports departmental data isolation, allowing department heads to view only the attendance of employees within their department, ensuring data privacy.
